I found some cherries in the freezer this morning and after looking through my recipe books I thought I might try a new twist on an old classic. I love apple crumble so I though we would give a Cherry Crumble a go. This recipe can be altered to be gluten-free by substituting the wholemeal flour for almond or hazelnut meal and is free from refined sugar. Enjoy 🙂
- 2 cups of cherries (fresh or frozen pip removed)
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 1/2 cup wholemeal flour
- 2/3 cup organic oats
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 tablespoon honey
In a mixing bowl combine cherries and maple syrup until evenly coated. Spoon cherries into small single serve ramekin dishes. Using the same mixing bowl combine flour, oats, melted butter and honey. Sprinkle crumble mixture over cherries. Cover ramekin dishes with foil and bake in a 180 degree oven for 15 minutes. Remove foil and continue to cook until crumble is browned and crispy. Serve with homemade custard or ice cream.
