Oven baked meatballs are perfect for a quick and easy dinner. To take them to the next level I played around with a few different sauces and found the perfect combination – Beef and Teriyaki 🙂
Meatballs
- 1 kilogram of beef mince
- 1 cup of Panko breadcrumbs
- 2 eggs
- 2 large cloves of diced garlic
- 1 diced onion
- 2 tablespoons of Tamari or Soy Sauce
- 2 tablespoons of cooking Sake (if you don’t have cooking Sake Shaoxing Chinese Wine or Cooking Sherry will work).
For the meatballs combine the above ingredients in a large bowl. If you are using your Thermomix add all the ingredients to your bowl and mix for 30 seconds/speed 6.
Roll tablespoon of the mixture into balls and place on a lined baking tray. Cook in a 180 degree preheated oven until browned (20-30 minutes depending on your oven).
Teriyaki Sauce
- 1 teaspoon of Sesame Oil
- 3 large cloves of Garlic, minced
- 2/3 cup Tamari Sauce or Soy Sauce
- 1/2 cup of Mirin or Rice Wine Vinegar
- 1/2 cup Cooking Sake
- 1/2 cup of Brown Sugar
- 1 cup of Boiling Water
- 2 tablespoons of Cornstarch
Whisk the sauce ingredients together in a saucepan and then place on a medium heat until the sauce comes to a simmer. Continue to simmer until sauce is thickened and glossy.
If you are using your Thermomix add the sauce ingredients to a clean bowl and combine for 20 seconds/speed 6. Cook for 8 minutes/varoma/speed 2.
Remove the meatballs from the oven and pour over the sauce and garnish with thinly sliced spring onions and sesame seeds. Serve with steamed rice or mashed potatoes and vegetables.
The sauce is key to added flavour but my girls love the meatballs plain too 🙂
