My name is Lisa Klan and welcome to my personal blog about removing processed food from my families diet and bringing food back to the basics.
My journey started with a pledge to remove processed food from my diet for 100 days, which after much moaning and many wasted meals we successfully completed back in 2014.
Towards the end of the original 100 day challenge I became unwell due to a previous medical condition and contracted a very serious infection after an emergency operation. Due to this I have suffered some serious health setbacks. I have had to undergo numerous surgeries and have been left with some pretty major long term complications and drastic changes to my diet.
After the 100 day challenge we decided that it was too unrealistic to continue with such a restricted diet. Especially with two young children, my ongoing health issues and a husband who struggles to cook fish fingers let alone a meal made from scratch. My family now follows the 80/20 principal. 80% of the time they eat a diet that is low in sugar and free from processed foods and 20% of the time they enjoy the occasional meal of chicken nuggets and chips or a treat of cake or ice cream or some tiny teddies in their lunch box.
I personally believe in teaching my girls about every day foods and sometimes foods. I believe that by showing them the difference they will make better choices when they are older and don’t have their mother “forcing” a lifestyle choice on them. It’s okay to be human and not feel like cooking a meal from scratch every night of your life or making sure every snack is sugar free. Pulling a box of chicken tenders or fish fingers from your freezer on those nights where you are too tired to care or just can’t face the looks of horror over a plate of broccoli is okay.
I hope you continue to follow us on our journey and enjoy some of my recipes and tips.
Cheers
Lisa
