Back in the days when I did not worry about the ingredients in the food I ate I loved having a coffee and donuts for morning tea when I went out for the day. Unfortunately ( depending on how you look at it ) having some major stomach issues now prevents me from eating anything fried in oil – especially saturated animal fats. So no more donuts for me. Or so I thought until I came across this recipe on the 100 Days of Real Food website. I have experimented with flavours and while cinnamon is a fave I also love adding grated apple and the girls are quite partial to chocolate donuts. I purchased a mini donut maker from Big W for $10. Enjoy 🙂
Wholemeal Donuts
- 1 cup wholemeal flour
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 4 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon (for chocolate add 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa)
Mix all ingredients together in a bowl. Follow instructions on your donut maker. For the girls I sprinkle warm donuts with organic coconut sugar.
